Time After Time and Other Short Stories, by Richard H. Williams, sweeps across several literary genres. The first story, from which the book takes its name, “Time After Time,” is an original version of the popular science fiction theme of time travel. The entry titled “Two Tales of Gambling” focuses on retribution couched in horror. “The Departmental Chairperson” gives an insider’s view of the combative nature and snobbishness within academia. Half a dozen romance stories are included. One of them, “A Forbidden Love,” deals with a love affair between an 18 year old boy and a 40-year-old widow. Another, “Star Crossed Lovers,” treats the problem of a White Man who is in love with a Black woman. A professor conducts an independent study for his favorite student in “Shades of Edgar Allan Poe.” A professor’s desire for his favorite student leads to unrequited love. A mathematics teacher who is on leave of absence studies with a redheaded, green-eyed art teacher. “The Golf Match”
is a story about a longstanding secret between two men who play golf together. “Some Fun With the Dental Technician,” tells how what could have been a horrible trip to the dentist turned into a more than exciting one. A seventy-five year old man undergoes colonoscopy in “The Light At the End of the Tunnel.” In “Joy” a professor is obliged to move backward and forward in time at the whim of a student with mystical powers. Some of the stories in the book represent new twists to older themes, whereas others are unique and not comparable to any earlier literary works.

Review for one of the stories in this collection:
Love Lost—Love Regained is a very moving account of an academician’s career, retirement and life. Chapters highlight Professor Higgins’ day-to-day existence as well as treks to gardens, museums and the local zoo. Subsequent chapters chronicle his friendship with a young student through whom he developed a passion for intellectual discussions revolving around books, statistics and art. A fitting tribute to academia and the life of the mind.
Definitely worth reading and highly recommended if one wants to get into the heart and soul of a fictional character whose humanity is nurtured by faith in others. I very much enjoyed this book and look for more in the future.

Professor Henry Higgins had just turned 60 years old and was thinking about retiring. It was at the beginning of the fall semester in one of his evening classes, when he took note of a stunning young woman who sat in the front row, right near the podium. Her presence renovated Professor Higgins and that evening he gave what many in attendance said was the most dynamic lecture of his life. Her name was Anita Soto and she was from Madrid, Spain.
Later that evening Higgins pulled out the Kennedy half-dollar he had been saving. A thought about Anita then occurred to him. “Let me toss this coin and if heads turns up I will actively pursue her favor, and if the toss comes up tails, I will be more passive and hope that she is willing to pursue me.” He flipped it up and the result was tails.
Lake Rogue and Other Stories, by Richard H. Williams, sweeps across several literary genres. The book contains 28,222 words and 16 stories. The lead story, “Lake Rogue,” is a tale of horror. Humor is introduced through “Max’s Antics,” “A Likely Story,” “Howard Studies Art. “ The relation between a professor and his students is detailed by the following three stories: “I Do Some Cheating for Nicki,” “Joy Nabs the Professor,” and the lengthy tale, “On Reading Non-Fiction.” The frustration, sprinkled with humor, of playing golf is described in “Will Hunter Plays Golf.” “In Pursuit of Einstein’s Brain” details the working of a great brain. In “Glad to Be An Old Man” a 72-year-old man attempts to deal erotically with a beautiful 25-year-old woman. Near incest occurs in “My Second Cousin.” The proprietor of a golf driving range rescues two lovers from a graveyard. When chess rules are not followed, “A Game of Chess” yields unpredictable results. The anchor story is “Ocean’s Eleven;”---no relation to The Rat Pack.
